Generosity That Multiplies: Investing in Others’ Growth
“You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:1-2 (ESV)
Some gifts are given in a moment—a meal, card, ride, or practical help. Others take time: prayer, conversation, Scripture, encouragement, correction, example, and presence. One of the most generous gifts we can offer is an intentional investment in someone’s spiritual growth.
Paul gives Timothy a clear picture of disciple-making. First, Timothy must “be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus.” Before investing in others, he must remember that his strength comes not from personality, experience, or ability, but from Christ’s grace. Jesus has loved, forgiven, taught, and given Himself for us. We serve others not to earn His favor, but because we have received it.
Paul then tells Timothy to entrust what he has learned to “faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” This is multiplication: Paul invested in Timothy; Timothy was to invest in faithful people; they would teach others. The gospel and Christlike life are meant to be received, lived, and passed on.
This is generosity with eternal impact. We can encourage a younger believer, pray with a student, read Scripture with someone, or invite a friend to serve alongside us. We do not need to know everything; we simply share what God has taught us and point others to Jesus.
At CCCFC, we describe those ready for greater investment as FAT—Faithful, Available, and Teachable. They follow through in obedience, make room to learn and serve, and humbly keep growing. FAT does not mean perfection, but a responsive heart ready to receive investment and eventually invest in others.
We are not merely filling ministry roles; we are helping people become devoted followers of Jesus who love, serve, and make disciples. This is how generous love multiplies. As a church called to reproduce disciples through transformative communities to reach the world, we make room for others to move from receiving ministry to giving it—from attending and belonging to growing, leading, and being sent.
Reflection: Who is your “+1”—one person God is calling you to encourage or disciple this month? Pray for them by name, then take one step this week: reach out, meet, pray, read Scripture, or serve together.
